Expand your multichannel microphone recording capabilities with the P8 Eight-Channel Preamplifier with ADAT Converter from SPL. Rather than using less expensive integrated circuits (ICs), all eight of the mic preamps on this sleek rackmount unit are engineered with a discreet design featuring individual transistors that deliver up to 62 dB of gain for a neutral, open, and transparent sound. This version of the P8 is equipped with a built-in eight-channel A/D converter, allowing you to easily interface with compatible audio interfaces supporting digital audio via ADAT.
8 Pristine Channels of Microphone Preamplification with Professional Features
Microphone Inputs with Gain Control: The eight microphone inputs of the P8 are equipped with Neutrik XLR sockets featuring gold-plated contacts. The signal transmission is electronically balanced at a nominal level of 0 dBu. The gain control ranges between +8 and +62 dB.
Phantom Power: Each of the eight preamplifiers has an individual 48V phantom power switch for use with condenser microphones.
Pad: Each Pad switch in the respective preamplifier section attenuates the signal of the microphone input by -20 dB, so that even very high levels can be processed with the P8; well suited for use with loud percussion or brass recordings.
Phase Reverse: The Phase Reverse function on every preamp reverses the polarity of the signal by 180°.
High-Pass Filter: A 6 dB per octave high-pass filter is also available in each of the eight preamp sections to reduce unwanted frequencies below 80 Hz.
Analog and Digital Outputs
This version of the P8 features a single DB25 socket providing analog outputs from all 8 mic preamps. In addition, it features an 8-channel A/D converter and a pair of optical ADAT (TOSLINK) outputs that connect directly to the digital ADAT inputs on a wide range of audio interfaces.
In 8-channel mode, conversion rates of up to 96 kHz are supported. In 4-channel mode, conversion rates of up to 192 kHz are supported.
Conversion is handled by the highly acclaimed AKM AK5538 ADC chip, which, thanks to its architecture, reproduces outstanding sonic details.
The wordclock connection panel contains a clock input and a clock output as well as a switch for terminating the clock input. The A/D converter processes standard incoming wordclock signals and generates them on the outgoing connector, thus ensuring rock-solid digital transmission and pristine sound quality.
A USB service port on the A/D converter ensures that the digital interface can be easily maintained. The port is used to update the operating software (firmware) and is not intended for audio connections.
Made in Germany
Each P8 is carefully manufactured at SPL's production facility in Niederkrüchten, on the Lower Rhine, Germany to ensure complete quality control.
Many important components are installed on the circuit boards using through-hole technology to deliver the exemplary audio performance your sessions demand.
