“Mighty River” begins with powerful chords that announce the grandeur of the massive waterway, and flows into the middle section with swirling undercurrents and unexpected harmonic twists. Impressive sounding piece, but the repeating patterns and pianistic gestures make it much easier to play than it sounds. Commissioned by the Hattiesburg Music Teachers League of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in honor of their 2015 composer festival.
