For young beginners, we suggest the Yamaha Music Education Program, which offers systematic and fundamental music training for children age from 3-10. Based on extensive research, the Yamaha system embodies its own method. To listen, sing, play, read and create was established with the objective of bring out children’s potential and nurturing their capabilities to express themselves by music. Based on individual capabilities, the time frame may vary individually. It usually takes about 3-12 months to be able to manage playing an instrument.
For early beginners (age 2-5), we recommend to begin with 30mins private lesson or 45mins group lesson. For older beginners, we recommend to begin with 45-60minutes private lesson or 60-90 minutes group lesson.
Students can start as early as 4 years old for piano and violin. Other instruments such as guitar, drum or band instruments may require older beginner from age 7 or 8 above. Click for more information regarding the proper age for each instrument.

Yes, you will be taught how to read the music in your piano lessons.
For piano players, they can keep learning pop or jazz piano. They can also easily transit to learn a second instrument to join our ensemble programs to enjoy the music in a team work. Click here for more program information.
The most popular band instruments are flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, and saxophone. Of course, it is also mainly depends on your child’s interest. We offer Discovery Band Instruments in the summer for students to have hands on experience before they start. Check back for special summer programs post on the Tom Lee Music Academy. You may also talk to our Band Rental Consultant in our store, they may be able to give you recommendations.
The RCM exam system are examinations based on RCM syllabus and is focused on repertoires playing, techniques, sight reading and ear training. Yamaha exam system are examinations based on the Yamaha Method Curriculum in the Yamaha Music Education Programs. The focus of the examination will be based on Repertoires playing, sight reading, ear training and improvisation skills.
You may book a one time trial lesson with our teacher. After the trail lesson, the minimum number of lessons you need to register is 4 lessons.

Other than keyboard or piano, students are required to bring their own instrument to the class. You could also rent the instruments in TLM stores. Click here for more information.
The registration fee is $30+GST in each school year per family. We may have promotional period each year to waive this fee for early registrants. Please refer to our School Policy.
In order to register for a course, you must pre-pay your lessons. You may choose to make a one-time total payment or arrange for monthly payments (with extra service fee $30+GST). Please refer to our School Policy.
We wish your experience with our staff and instructors are good. It is our goal to provide high quality service and instructions. However, if any concerns may arise, please talk to the school administrator. We will try our best to help you. You could request a transfer to another class or teacher if you are not satisfied with your current lesson or instructor. The first time for transferring is FREE. $25 transfer fee may occur for the 2nd time you make such request. Please refer to our School Policy.
Please inform the teacher and school administrators at least 48 hours ahead of the scheduled lesson. Classes cancelled due to sickness without the authorization of teachers will NOT be re-scheduled. Please refer to our School Policy.
